The Elephant Sanctuary of Tennessee

Not open to the public. Founded in 1995, the Elephant Sanctuary is known worldwide as the largest natural habitat refuge developed specifically for endangered African and Asian elephants. It is operated on 2,700 acres and exists to provide for old, sick or needy elephants in a setting of green pastures, old-growth forests, spring-fed ponds and a heated barn. Plans are being developed to build a state-of-the-art education and visitor center adjoining Sanctuary grounds. Some shops in Hohenwald sell Sanctuary merchandise. 931-796-6500.
